ABOUT US
THE WHY, BEHIND THE LABEL My love for textiles runs deep. Born and raised in India, I was mesmerized by the vibrant colors found in traditional Indian garments - saris and punjabi dresses. What made these garments unique was the local art of weaving, embroidering, printing, and transforming the fabric. It was a time when women took pride in wearing and treasuring the finest cottons and silks. Craftsmanship was valued. And tailors commanded the time and price.

THE MEANING Pronounced in two syllables "Poh | shahk", the name is inspired by a Hindi term “poshak” which refers to dress, clothing or a garment worn by men or women |
THE WHAT, AND THE HOW Poeshaq aims to produce products that your skin favors - what goes over your body matters as much as what goes inside your body Handcrafted in small batches with limited collection - I design and produce women's clothing in natural fibers. Oeko-Tex Certified where possible Top quality raw materials - are sourced from across the world in an attempt to establish provenance as best as possible This is a passion project - which is kept nimble so I can evolve and be a better version of myself every day |
THE FOUNDER'S JOURNEY After almost a decade of working in New York City, and having very little time to myself, I felt the need to pause and reflect. I quit my job in advertising to pursue a childhood passion - to create and design products that brings joy, comfort, and style with a sense of gratitude towards nature. I wanted to design a smart-comfort wear line made from quality fabrics. Understated elegance is my motto. But, I had no industry knowledge or experience. There is an immense power in knowing that you know nothing. No preconceived notions just tried and tested - trial and error method. I scoured the internet for best in class materials - 'how-to' videos, pattern books, online sewing forums, and enrolled for a 'how to operate a sewing machine' class. A year later, I was ready to do a soft launch when the world braced itself for a COVID-19 pandemic. A bend in the road perhaps - I took this as an opportunity to refine my collection, build more content for my website, learn the ins and outs of setting up a sustainable business practice, get to know my audience, and engage with them. As of this writing, I am the sole member of this small clothing business. The current collection is designed, cut, and sewn by me at my home studio.
